The Leeds team, led by Doug Parker, includes scientists and social scientists from SEES, the School of Mathematics and the School of Civil Engineering. We will conduct research on natural hazards, including floods, heatwaves and episodes of poor air quality. Our work will include the development of computational models, to be deployed in real-world cases through people-centred participatory approaches. We will collaborate with partners in the Global South including KNUST and GMet in Ghana, and University of Dhaka in Bangladesh.

The MHRN is led by the Institute of Development Studies in Sussex

In addition to the programme of research, we expect to work responsively to provide expert guidance during evolving natural hazard events as they occur. In due course we will be contacting colleagues across the University of Leeds to form a network of expertise in the Natural Hazards area.

The Multi-Hazard Research Network (MHRN) is a three-year programme led by the Institute of Development Studies (IDS) and funded by The UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), to strengthen decision-making and help improve people’s resilience to health emergencies and natural hazards before, during and after crises.
